It Feels Great to be Breaking The Five Day Fast!
Finally! I finished the Five Day Water Fast! Honestly I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it. I felt good for the most part but at times it got a bit monotonous. A prolonged fast is definitely a challenge and you have to prepare for it, monitor your blood sugar levels, stay fully hydrated, and supplement. Another important thing is to know how to go about breaking your fast.
Breaking Your Fast The Right Way

Make Sure To Go Slowly When You Break Your Fast
The last thing that you want to do after not eating for five days is gorge yourself with a lot of food especially unhealthy food. That is the wrong way to break it! The first thing that I ate or rather drank was a mug of Kettle & Fire Mushroom Chicken Bone Broth. I just discovered this bone both while doing my research for the fast. Let me tell you that I am so glad that I did! This stuff is so delicious and flavorful. Way better than any store bought stock.
Bone broth is so beneficial for you. There are so many reasons for adding it into your diet such as:
- It repairs your gut lining
- Improves joint health and reduces pain
- Provides electrolytes
- Strengthens muscles and bones
- Reduces stress
- Helps you to sleep
- Strengthens skin
These benefits are due to the high collagen that is present in bone broth. Stock and broth purchased from the store do not contain as much collagen and do not provide the same benefits. The best way to tell if a broth contains a lot of collagen is to refrigerate it. If it turns into a gel then it contains a lot of collagen. Of course as with any other food, homemade is always the best!
Quality Bone Broth Takes Time
Did you know that if you want to make a good bone broth you need to simmer it for 24 hours? When I found that out I decided to do the easy thing and just buy some premade, good quality containers of it. I can’t wait to try the others! After this I had a teaspoon of MCT oil to keep myself in ketosis. You need fat to produce ketones. I learned about the Sports Research brand from Cancer Fighter Owen.
My Absolute Favorite Thing That I Ate To Break the Fast

Cooked vegetables are another good thing to have to break the fast. They are loaded with vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants. Another benefit is that they are easy to digest. It is a good idea to cook some vegetables ahead of time so that they are ready for you. I made a big plate of broccoli rabe with sautéed garlic and pine nuts to add some crunch. I will be posting the recipe tomorrow. Be sure to look out for it!
Super Yogurt – The Best Thing For Your New Fasted Gut

After a prolonged fast you have a new gut! All of the hard work pays off because the bad microbes in your digestive system die off and the good microbes multiply. Did you know that we are missing invaluable microbes in our digestive systems?
L. Reuteri is a microbe which has almost completely disappeared from the human microbiome. This is due to the use of antibiotics and chemicals such as glyphosate. L. Reuteri when present takes up residence in your small intestine. It is a powerful microbe because it can survive the acids in your stomach, colonize your entire GI tract, increase oxytocin (the feel good hormone), and improve IBS (inflammatory bowel disease) and a whole host of other health conditions.
If you want to get L. Reuteri into your system you need to make your own yogurt with this lost right microbe. Dr. Davis talks about this in his book “Super Gut”.

I have been making Dr. Davis’ super SIBO yogurt and enjoying it even before my fast. It is absolutely delicious! Better than any Greek yogurt that I have had. I have also made his coconut milk version, equally as good. These homemade yogurts, or rather cultured dairies, are addictive. All that you have to do is have 1/2 cup a day with some fresh fruit on top. Since I have been eating this Super Yogurt I have been feeling happier and sleeping like a baby! I even dream more often and longer! This is definitely something that I will be making and eating for the rest of my healthy life.
What Is Next After Breaking Fast?
For the next few days I will eat healthy and lightly. I am also going to continue on with my 16/8 intermittent fasting schedule. This has been so beneficial and I am having good health outcomes. I thought I would try a seven day fast next year although after this I think I will just stick to five days. You actually peak with the benefits on day three. Day four and five are a continuation of the benefits so they are just added perks.
I will definitely be eating a lot more vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, legumes, and fermented foods. These are great for supporting your gut. Occasionally I will have some grass fed, pasture raised meats and dairy. Carb cycling along with Keto is also on my bucket list.
The most important thing for you to do when getting into a healthy lifestyle is listen to your body.
- Do you feel good?
- Are your energy levels high?
- Is your sleep deep and restful?
If you feel off for any reason then tweak your diet a little – with healthy choices of course!
